If you are going to be breaking up concrete on your property, it can be a costly hassle to have the concrete hauled off. This is especially true since there are so many other uses you can find for the concrete pieces. Learn about some of the different ways you can put those broken concrete pieces to good work around your property in this article.

Create a walkway

Dig out a path in your yard that's as deep as the concrete pieces. Lay the pieces in the path and place them between two to four inches apart. Once the pathway is complete, take the loose dirt and pack it around each piece. You will now have a level pathway that's both functional and great looking.

Add a decorative wall around trees

Add a nice touch to the border of larger trees in your yard with the pieces. All you have to do is stack the pieces on top of one another around the trunk of the tree until they come about a foot up from the ground.

Put stepping stones in your garden

Take the pieces of concrete that are about the size of a stepping stone and place them throughout your garden in the areas you want to be able to walk in. You can also place some of them around the garden for a special touch.

Make a patio flooring

If you don't currently have a patio area in your backyard, you can make one using only the broken concrete pieces. Dig out the area, making it as deep as the pieces, just as you would do to create a pathway. You can make the area any shape you choose so you can create the right look for your yard. Lay the pieces out and use the loose dirt to fill in the spaces between each piece.

  • Tip: If you want the pieces concreted in, then you can spread out concrete and set each piece in it instead of using the fill dirt.

Build a taller garden section against the house

Take the concrete pieces and lay them out to create a box, using your house as one of the sides. Smooth out some ready-mix concrete on each piece and stack another piece of concrete on top of them. Build the wall up to at least a few feet of height. Once it has dried, fill the area up with dirt and add soil on top. You will now have another garden area where you can plant flowers.

Now that you have an idea of some of the different ways you can use those broken concrete pieces, you may want to keep them around and put them to some creative use instead of having them hauled off.
